Zach Darton on Fashion: How Not to Wash Jeans

Raw denim is unwashed denim fresh off the looms. Other jeans are washed and distressed after being crafted which give the jeans the broken-in look, where as with raw denim the person wearing the jeans does all the distressing on their own.

So, how do you keep raw denim looking right? Well, with the jeans below (and any pair of raw denim) the character comes with MONTHS of wearing without washing. This may sound gross, but its what you have to do ... and there are ways of controlling odor. The recommended time to wear raw denim is six months before a wash; this should be enough time to create the sought after worn-in look. During this time hanging the jeans to air out scents is good, as well as throwing them in the freezer (if you have room).

Below are two denim brands' jeans, reflecting two different price points. But both pairs should be in your closet.
