New Music: Strip Steve, Wyclef, and State Prop

Strip Steve is a young Bordeauxian who dropped a new EP on Boyz Noise called Delta Disco. Point Break is the most mellow track on this predominantly club-house release, but it's before 10am, and I haven't even had a cig yet. Besides this song is awesome for two reasons; the first is that it's actually an awesome song, and the second is that it shares its name with the classic Keanu Reaves/ Patrick Swayze, surf/cop and robber movie Point Break. Via con dios.

The slightly legendary, slightly relevant, very talented, and ever-doltish Wyclef Jean just released a new single. Obviously, Clef's career started out with the release of two classic albums; the Score and the Carnival. Since then, however, he only occasionally drops good songs. Usually his music approaches serious topics with the lyrics of a dyslexic thirteen year old with a good heart. Lyricism has never been the Haitian born, New Jerseyan's strong point, and sometimes, a great melody or a borrowed hook (Guantanemera, Staying Alive, Sweetest Girl) can make you forget what an awful writer dude is. That is, by no means, the case on Streets Pronounce me Dead. This song is quite, quite, quite dumb. Nevertheless, it's somewhat enjoyable...for the same reason that I've seen Killa Season three times. I found this, and the next song on Nah Right.

But not all is lost for the hip hop sentimentalists out there. DJ Benja just dropped a best of Freeway and Jakk Frost mixtape called, wait for it, The Best of Both Beards. Back ya Boyz Down is a lo-fi, high-energy ditty featuring both emcees and Beanie Mac. These Philly boys have not adapted at all to the new era of tight pantsed, uber-synthesized hip hop, and Allah bless em for it. Say what you will about the fact that they have been rapping about the same thugged-out shit since the heyday of the Roc. One thing is clear, all three of these guys can still spit.
