Pic (er...Video) of the Day 07.17.09 aka RAAAAAAAANDY!!!!

About two years ago, V-tron and I were sitting on his couch in a slackerish summer malaise watching YouTube videos because his TV was busted. We’d exhausted almost all our viewing options when Tron remembered a skit by an up-and-coming comedy troupe he’d seen. The video, simply titled “Rollerblading,” featured a young and at the time unknown Indian comedian reflecting on the hardships of Rollerblading – namely, the need to tell your parents you’re gay. While this may seem trivial, the skit made me laugh harder than I’d laughed at anything since the first time I saw “Arrested Development.” And that was my introduction to Aziz Ansari.

Since then, Ansari has had a show on MTV (Human Giant) and is now one of the stars of NBC’s newest comedy “Parks and Recreation.” What’s more, he’s landed a small, but plum role in Judd Apatow’s latest film “Funny People.”

Right, so how does any of this relate to the above video? Well, in the movie Ansari plays a comedian named Randy who’s clearly a satirical and almost sardonic commentary on shitty comedians. In an attempt to publicize the film and his role, Ansari is performing at comedy clubs and making video sketches as Randy. The video above is one such sketch. The best part of it all is that most people have no idea who Ansari is. They actually think he’s some guy named Randy.

You can hit Randy up on MySpace, just remember to spell Randy with eight A’s.
