Shook of the Swine

We now have the first confirmed fatality in the US from Swine Flu--a child in Texas. Over the weekend, everyone was talking about the deadly flu, and how we're all going to get murked because of this weird transmittable Mexican disease. Let me say this, more than 35,000 people die of regular seasonal flu every year. As with regular influenza, a healthy adult is most likely not going to die from swine flu. The disease affects children and the elderly much differently. I'm not sure whether the panic is because of the potential that it has as an epidemic or because of the sexy media storyline it carries. Either way, I'm tired of fear. Being alive is dangerous. Car accidents, second hand smoke, terrorism, natural disasters--all global killers. It's a jungle out there. At what point do we stop freaking?
