The Taming of the Shoe

Katherina: "For what pursuits, vile knave, incites thee to toss your shoe at me?"
Petruchio: "Because thou hath invaded me country and slain me women and children!"
Katherina: "Right Ho! And now I will leave those silly Americans with a tremendous economic problem as well.  The last laugh is mine!"

In this version of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shoe, Katherina will be played by George W. Bush and Petruchio by Muntadar al-Zaidi.  This is just more proof that the themes of Shakespeare's works still hold strong today.

Or not.  You may remember Muntadar al-Zaidi from the now infamous youtube video where he throws his shoe at George during a press conference.  Al-Zaidi was originally scheduled for trial today, however his lawyers managed to postpone in hopes of downgrading the charges against him.  All-Daydi is being charged with Attacking a Foreign Leader, a charge which his lawyers are trying to downgrade to Insulting a Foreign Leader.

I am far from being a Bush supporter, and the persecution of journalists is generally ridiculous, but I am going to make an exception to my uber-liberal agenda right now (and go on a bit of a rant).

1) Throwing your shoe at someone is not an insult, it is an assault.
2) If he had thrown that shoe at Obama (or any other President who was not among the worlds most unpopular and about to leave office) right now, Obama would probably opening scene Bruce Willis him in Die Hard: With a Vengeance, and nobody would have given it a second thought.
3) I definitely feel sorry for all of the Iraqis that have lost their lives as well as just about everyone living in that country, and I definitely understand being frustrated with politics (I have lived in America since 2000), but that is no excuse for acting that way.  Organize a protest of George but don't go losing your job, ending up in jail, and really having no impact on anything because you lost your temper.  That's childsplay.

We shall see were this all leads.
