Swagger Jackin' Brazilian Style

Flashback to 1998.  Instead of skinny jeans substitute UFOs.  Nelly just dropped Country Grammar (Yeah Buddy).  Nobody even knew what a Yuppie was.  The good old days.  One more really cool thing about 1998 was going to raves and getting trashed on ecstasy and being 14. 

Anyone who has traveled outside of the US (or even in the US, but to a lesser degree) knows how late the rest of the World is when it comes to up-to-the-minute trends. For anyone who doesn’t know, Brazil proves once again that the world is 10 years behind America when it comes to gettin it poppin.  Want more examples?  The Mullet trend in Europe; Panama just finally got hit with the Macarena; THEY DONT EVEN HAVE DIPSET MIXTAPES YET IN AFRICA (and you thought African politics was a mess now, just wait till the Byrdgang touches down…)! 

Brazil does have a few things on America though: Their soccer team is bonkers, the women are off the chain, City of God might have been the most gully movie ever, Capoeira is cool to look at I guess (except we got big guns players, take that fancy martial arts shit and shove it), and not to mention the fact that they get to have 1 name (Ronaldo, Ronaldinho) like rock stars and it’s all good.

But what they don't have is the U.S.'s ability to start the fire.  I would never have thought, back in 1998 when Josh, myself and a few other goons took a bunch of E at a rave then got locked out of Josh's house and had to take the train back to Brooklyn only to realize that I forgot my keys and my mom had to let us in at 6am (TrueStory.com), that the foolish Brazilian upper-class would emulate our funky style 11 years later and make it their own.  Sometimes you just gotta love globalization.
