On most work days, all of us are drones -- endlessly slaving away as a barely cognizant and slightly mindless extension of a computer. We surreptitiously surf the web for news and assorted bullshit, keeping our heads on a swivel to ensure we aren't being watched by somebody higher up on the totem pole.
Today, however, was different. As Barack Hussein Obama made his first speech as President of the United States of America -- to rapturous applause -- my co-workers and I were glued to a monitor watching history unspool (pictured above). We didn't need to worry about the boss looming over us because he was watching too.
America, January 20, 2009 -- this was an important time and place to be alive. Fulfillment sits heavy in the air. We are now riding the crest of a high a beautiful wave. Whether that waves crashes down apocalyptically, or settles slowly into a sea of calm, will be determined by the test of time, and this presidency.
Not so fast, Jerk Store. One day at a time. Let's let this soak in for a while. Let's marinate in it. And let's always remember where we were today.
