Anti-Israeli Aggression Protest Today at 5:30, 42nd and 2nd

Facebook status messages tell me (yeah, I said Facebook told me) that "In the last 16 days, 888 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza (including 284 children and 100 women) and 4080 injured" due to Israeli attacks. Whatever your politics, and given that you are capable of feeling feelings, those appallingly high yet painfully real numbers should stand out as simply unacceptable.
Yes, Israel, understandably, feels threatened by Hamas, the democratically elected but radically anti-Israeli and violent Palestinian organization that has been launching rockets from the Gaza strip into southern Israel. But no, the violence of the last 16 days has not been justified. Israel's response has been outlandishly aggressive, and their use of force, particularly that force causing all types of civilian casualties (including hitting a UN school and killing dozens of children), is unacceptable. More appalling is the US governments lack of opposition to the Israeli aggression. While there are some brave souls on those fabled floors of government who have taken a stand

there has not been enough political pressure from the people to support a broader and more outspoken stance. However, the movement is a brewin', even in Israel, where Israeli's and Palestinians have come out together against the violence, and where soldiers are putting down their weapons as conscientious objectors.

All that being said, there's a rally today, at 5:30, outside the Israeli consulate. I was told it will be a calm, silent protest of Jews against Israeli aggression in Gaza. Jew or gentile, this is a worthwhile way to spend a Monday evening.
