The You WIldin' Top Sixty Songs of 2008: 45-43

45) Chairlift- Bruises
These three Williamsburg transplants, which also happen to be friends of friends (apparently Marty stole one of their drumsticks), had a good year- largely due to Bruises: the witty, cute and super catchy Ipod nano song. The arrangement, particularly the vocal arrangement) reminds me of a Stars song, and Stars is one of my favourite bands....so that's good.

44) Crystal Castles- Crimewave (LAZRtag remix)
LAZRtag is one of the best electro-remix teams on this side of the Atlantic. Crimewave is a good example of their work. Its hard hitting and fun, and it adds some new elements to the original without taking away too much from the original feel. But this track is up here more as an ode to Crystal Castles, whose 2007 debut was in heavy rotation in the YW circle this summer. Crimewave was one of the main reasons why.

43) Lil Wayne featuring Jay-Z- Mr. Carter
Mr. Carter is probably my favourite song on tha Carter III. Weezy generally rips it. His first verse is one of the best on the album. The beat is colossal (still can't believe it's not Just Blaze). The chorus is goose-bump inducing, especially when it breaks into the children's quire ending. Jay definitely works hard to shape the sentiment of the song into a passing of the torch type thang. Maybe a couple too many random ad-libs on Weezle's part, but it is a minor flaw. Was this song nominated for a Grammy?

Yo man. Before I say this, I just want to tell you that I love you. But, if you ever, ever, ever spell "favorite" as "favourite" again, I will kill you.

This is not 1777. This is 2008, and you are half robot. You should be spelling it like everyone else, or in your own robot form. I just want to be clear. Note to all other YW authors: Any Old(e)English that is not in a burgundy 40 ounce will not be permitted on the blog.

Thanks,
Name
