30) Boy Crisis- Dressed to Digress
I have spent way too much time in my life searching for good MGMT remixes. It's because they have such a good sound for dancing. Yet if you put on the original Electric Feel at the club, every would end up dancing like the androgynous clowns from the song's video. That is one of the things I like about Boy Crisis, the Williamsburg-based quartet that Pitchfork dubbed as the worst band on Earth; they have a similar sound to MGMT, but they make dance music. Every time I hear Dressed to Digress, I want to get drunk and fuck a hipster. On top of that, lead singer Victor Vasquez is also a very talented rapper, and you can hear the influence of a hip hop background on his cadence, delivery, and within his intricate rhyme-schemes and witty lyrics.
Now, you might be wondering who actually is the worst band in the world. I nominate Holiday Parade.
29) The Kooks- Gap
The debut Kooks album is one of my all time favourites. Although not quite as impressive, their 2008 follow-up, Konk, was critically and commercially acclaimed. The Kooks have an uncanny ability to sound both soft and hard at the same time. Gap is a simple, concise and pretty ballad that retains an alternative edge by utilizing a lot of subtle distortion. Also, there is something to be said about new rock bands that don't use synthesizers.
28) Boys Noize- Oh (A-Trak remix)
Dope original, dope remix. Honestly though, this song is mostly on this list because Boys Noize and A-Trak have been so important for music this year. Boys Noize became an international electro superstar, and his label, Boys Noize Records, has recently grown into one of the two or three best electronic labels in the world. Known as one of the best technical djs in history, A-Trak has done over 100 shows in 2008, and I am sure he killed them all. His label, Fool's Gold, saw three of its artists (Kid Cudi, Chromeo[who were already pretty big but got bigger], and Kid Sister) break into stardom. Trak and B Noize are just bosses, and will be for years to come. Plus, their show at Webster Hall was tons of chemically induced fun.

Gap by Kooks=Best song of year hands down. Every other song on this list is now wack because of Gap's 29th place ranking. Thank you for putting it half way through the top 60 strictly for me and Stratatician. But, we're still salty as fuck. Whatevs. Name & Strat Top Songs of 2008 coming soon featuring all of Konk plus Kooks live at Abbey Road plus Kooks remix of Kids.
"DON'T GO, TAKE MY LOVE I WON'T LET YOU. I'M SAYING PLEASE DON'T GOOOO!!!"
Gap is fucking amazing. Me and Name JO to this song. Together and separately. Sometimes John Mayer is involved. I'm not as mad at the place ranking of the song as I am that it did not get a stand alone post. As much as i love A-Trak, this song does not deserve to be ahead of the kooks nor on the same post. Biased? YESSUR.
