The You Wildin' Top Sity Songs of 2008:10-6

Here is the moment that the whole universe has been waiting for. I am not only unveiling the top ten, but I'm giving you five tracks. I bet your cumming in your pants right now. (catch the sarcasm please, otherwise I sound like a huge prick)
10) Yelle- A Cause des Garçons (Tepr Remix)
If you had told me two years ago that I would publicly rank a white French female rapper's song in an annual top ten list, I wouldn't have believed you. But this song is fuego, and not in small part because of Yelle's cute, rhythmic, and ultra hip flow. Tepr makes this track sound like the soundtrack of an ambiance scene at a night club in a German space station. All in all, A Cause des Garçons picks up the energy on any dance floor, and just sounds really, really, really cool.

9) TI- Whatever You Like
TI's 2008 release, Paper Trail, was one of my favourite's of the year. Whatever you Like is among half a dozen incredible singles on the album. There was no reason that this shouldn't have been the biggest song of the fall, and unless you were in the woods of Taiwan with a Chinese boar hunting for oriental truffles, you would know that it was. It might also be the best pregame song of the year, and is definitely the best song that sounds like it could be about Joe Biden.

8) The Ting Tings- Great DJ (Calvin Harris Remix)
This and the Yelle track are the two songs in the top ten that wont be on a lot of other people's lists. But this is a feel-good party song of the highest quality. The concept of Great DJ is wonderful. The chorus is long, fun, and basically perfect, and Calvin Harris' beat is an excellent combination of bass, soaring synths, piano, weird sounds... and the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums.

7) Santogold- LES Artistes
I am not actually a huge of Santogold. I like her voice, and her style, but I think her album leaves a lot to be desired. Naturally, I love LES Artistes. It is a great song.
More importantly, however, is what I think Santogold has come to represent: the change that characterized this year in popular music. If Kanye and Pharell provided a framework of open-mindedness that allowed counter-culture and music which is ambiguous in genre to morph into pop-culture, and MIA was the first international star to exemplify this transformation, than Santogold and her success, proved that this change was not a fluke, and that artists like MIA and Santogold will be in the public eye for years, changing music and iconaclism, for the better.

6) Usher featuring Young Jeezy- Love in this Club
When I got back to the states, this was thee song in the club. This is the perfect night time song. Usher is the man, the chorus basically forces you to sing along, Jeezy's verse is funny and sonically pleasing. Ryan Leslie's triumphant yet sexy beat is an ideal combination of r&b and electronica, and there has never been a better concept for a song inteded for drinking and dancing.
