Walking around the city everyday, I'd swear it didn't exist before the invention of steel. Imposing buildings tower over you at every corner, giving New York its modern, metropolitan beauty. But every now and then, you're reminded of what it might have been like to live in old New York -- the one with horse-drawn carriages instead of cars, and cobblestone roads instead of pot-holed highways. I stumbled across this plaque the other day at the entrance of a high-rise apartment building on 84th St. between Broadway and Amsterdam. It's weird to think that there used to be a farmhouse there.
