Happy InedepenDance Day Brahsky!

As I woke up today, drunk and answering my phone, I heard myself muttering the words "happy independence day". It is a nice holiday. The British have a very hard time finding the middle ground between barbaric and super gay, and I am glad I don't have to deal with that. Their teeth are horrendous, and their food makes one remember that, in the UK, it rains all the time.
I'm happy not to be British. Nevertheless, I think it is important we remember for what we celebrate our independence day. We are not a native population. So while the people of Vietnam, or Algeria, or Mozambique, or even, to a degree, Colombia were generally indigenous to the country for which they fought for sovereignty, we were not. We were not underdogs or slaves, like those in Haiti. In fact, we were slave owners. After we won the poorly named American Revolution, we didn't even feel the concept of freedom like most newly emancipated states as only property owning white men could vote. Really, our revolution was a war between rich white man which birthed the tradition of US isolationist conservatism. A real American revolution would involve popular participation by Native Americans, and possibly marginalized minorities. So when the fireworks go off tonight, and you get all choked up, remember, the revolution we celebrate on July 4th is the same one white South African's would celebrate on May 31st: independence from the British with a continuation of imperialist dominance by the Europeans. Only the white South African's didn't exterminate the native population of South Africa.

Whatever, its all good. Wild Out today. If you need some more inspiration to get shit-faced and fall into a barbecue, listen to this song by SebastiAn.
