Mother Nature's Son

Sitting down to write on our latest wilder, I am, I must admit, a little daunted. Not since the state of Texas have we at youwildin.com attempted to personify widlin in such a grandiose form. But enough pitter-patter. Ladies and gentleman, I give you the Matriarch of Mischief, Gaia herself: MOTHER NATURE.

Its the middle of May, and its like 40 degrees and damn near snowing outside. I expect this in April, I certainly expect this in March, but no way in hell should I be pining for my scarf and hat in mid-May. What gives? The only answer is that Mother Nature is clearly wildin. However, this is nothing new. Over the last four years or so, Mother Nature has been on a wildin spree the likes of which we haven't seen since the Koolman swore off the white.

(A note to those who will read on: Id like to say that in no way is this post or this blogger making light of any of the situations below. I wish the best for all those touched by natural disasters, and send my most heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones in these storms and their after-effects.)

I believe that Mother Nature began this latest wildin spree by creeping up on Southeast Asia with a deadly Tsunami in the winter of 2004. This colossal display of oceanic might emanated from an undersea earthquake with magnitude between 9.1 and 9.3 (the second largest ever recorded), and ended up killing about 225,000 people in eleven countries, and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 meters. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in history.

The Great Gaia was just getting started. Mother Nature next set her sights upon the Gulf Coast, sending Hurricane Katrina to defile the coastal communities of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. Katrina's raucous bombardment of the Gulf was, of course, aided by the failed Levee system "protecting" greater New Orleans from deadly flooding. On a personal note, I was in New Orleans after the storm, and Mother Nature was definitely wildin with the damage she done did to the the city's poorer neighborhoods.

After Katrina, Mother Nature seemed to settle down. Little did we know, she was simply resting up for her next round of wildin out. Over the last month, we have seen a profoundly morbid earthquake in the China's Sichuan province, leaving over 40,000 dead and 5 million homeless. The Mother pulled this off while spinning off a vicious cyclone in Myanmar (Burma), killing nearly 22,500, and leaving 41,000 people missing.

When I look at what Mother Nature has been up to in the past few years, she is clearly the queen wilder. She demands out utmost respect, even our reverence of her awesome power. As any true wilder, the more we try to control her, the greater her wildin becomes. She is truly a wilder not to be messed with. She is, as I have been known to say at times, unfuckwittable.
